Saturday 15th May, 7am, Buckleys

Meet at Buckleys Pond situated about 500 metres south of the Wesleyan Holiness Church in Buckleys Village.  The road to the pond is just next to the church entrance. Call 722-5432 for directions if needed.

From the pond area there is a grand view of the Body Ponds valley. The trip, which is being held in collaboration with the Forestry Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the Environment, will include a 30 minute walk from Buckleys to the Body Ponds area, where participants will be able to see the area intended for the EAG "Arboretum" Project near to Fisher Dam.

There will also be a climb to the ridge overlooking the whole of the Body Ponds/Brecknocks area including the Forestry Unit's re-forestation project in the area close to Fisher Dam.

Participants will have the opportunity  to assist in tree planting, and maintenance of the re-forested area.  The fire prevention measures which the Forestry Unit is using to protect the re-planted area will be explained.  You will also see the invasive, fire-prone fever grass at close hand.

Participants should wear sturdy footwear and bring water and a snack.  If you can also bring a garden trowel or fork, cutlass or other hand implements this would facilitate the tree planting and clearing exercise.  Forestry Unit will provide tree seedlings and other equipment.

EAG Members and the General Public are all invited.  Please come out in your numbers and support the work of the EAG and the Forestry Unit/Environment Division.
